Violet Elementary Art
Kindergarten
The kindergarteners have completed two projects so far! Our very first week, we learned the "recipe for orange" (mixing red and yellow) and painted. We completed our pumpkin collages, working on our cutting and glueing skills. Next we learned about the artist Claude Monet. We created water using oil pastel and different kinds of line. We then painted over the paper, learning about watercolors and how to use them. We worked on shapes, cutting and gluing again to create the lilies.
First grade
The first grade started the year with a review of Claude Monet. We painted backgrounds in the style of Claude Monet's Japanese Bridge paintings and then added a blue bridge, just like Mr. Monet's in Giverny, France. We also added some flowers and lily pads with oil pastels.
We then learned about the artist Laurel Burch. We did a "draw along" to create our cats, drawing only one line or shape at a time to create the whole picture. We drew patterns all over our cats and then talked about good coloring technique. How to stay in the lines, making good color choices and no white space were discussed. Also discussed was the fact that in art there isn't always one right answer (or one good color choice) and how everyone's art is unique. |
second grade
The Second Grade created backgrounds with cool colors this year for our sparkle tree paintings. We did a "paint along" to paint the trees - using the "Y" technique to create our trees. We also mounted our paintings on black paper and added "sparkles" to prepare our paintings for presentation.
Next we created an owl drawing. Ms. Tims had us trace over our pencil lines with Sharpie marker, so everyone could see them better and we had a discussion about visual patterns. We added patterns to our owl's head, wings, and body and were sure to put our owls in an environment.

third grade
Third grade has been working on owls and a combination of skills. Painting for our "pretty paper", collage for our owl's stomach and dry brush technique for the texture in our owl's feathers.
fourth grade
Fourth Grade learned about tints and shades and mixed them to created the background for our paintings. We then collaged some trees and learned the vocabulary term "silhouette". Our animals in silhouette completed our project.
We are drawing still life currently.

fifth grade
Fifth Grade was introduced to the sculptor Henry Moore. We then created non-objective sculptures, using wire, pantyhose and wood blocks. We painted the sculptures with gesso to make the sculptures more firm and then colored them with a gradient. Some of us used analogous colors and others used our knowledge of tints and shades from last year.
